# I. Game Background

Cyberpunk 2077 comes from The Witcher studio CD Projekt RED, set in the dystopian megalopolis Night City. You play mercenary V, who — after a botched job — is implanted with the personality chip of legendary rockerboy-turned-terrorist Johnny Silverhand, leaving a ticking clock on their life and a race to remove it.

Based on the 1988 tabletop Cyberpunk, it's steeped in anti-utopian, cyberware, and hacker culture. After the 2.0 overhaul (2023) and the Phantom Liberty expansion, its reputation reversed from launch-bottom to "one of the best open-world RPGs."

This guide defaults to no spoilers of main story or ending direction — only mechanics and Build ideas.

# II. Core Mechanics

  • Attributes: Body (melee / HP), Reflexes (blades / guns), Intelligence (hacking / quickhacks), Technical (crafting / engineering), Cool (stealth / cold-blood). Points gate which cyberware and skills you can use.
  • Cyberware: replace body parts for abilities, but capped by Cyberware Capacity (introduced in 2.0) — must balance.
  • Quickhacks (hacking): Intelligence-core, remotely入侵 enemies / cameras; an "overheat" system replaces mana.
  • Cyberdeck / Sandbox / Operating System: defines hacker style — Control / Combat / Overclock.
  • Street Cred: rises with missions, unlocking vendors and cyberware.
  • Vehicle combat & AutoDrive: Update 2.3 adds autonomous driving (AutoDrive) and self-driving taxis for smoother city travel.
  • Branching dialogue & endings: choices shape the story and multiple endings (5+ endings + hidden) — see All Endings.
  • Phantom Liberty: a standalone spy-story expansion adding Dogtown and new skills / cyberware — strongly recommended.

# III. Beginner Tips

  1. Push the main story to unlock systems: post-2.0, many systems open gradually with the story — don't blindly dump skills at the start.
  2. Pick one main style to start: Netrunner (Intelligence) has the lowest floor and is safe at range; Solo (Body+Reflexes) frontlines; Shinobi (Reflexes+Cool) stealth-assassinates.
  3. Use cover and crouch: first-person gunfights rely on cover — don't stand and trade.
  4. Netrunner is most friendly: early "System Reset" / "Short Circuit" quickhacks clear rooms with no damage taken — good for less-skilled players.
  5. Start a new save post-2.0: old saves use different systems; a fresh start gives the full new experience.
  6. Return to apartment / ripperdoc often: upgrade cyberware, respec (small fee) at the doc.
  7. Buy "Ultimate Edition" (includes DLC): new players should grab Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition (with Phantom Liberty) for best value.

# Three Core Playstyles

Playstyle Primary Stats Core Tools Difficulty
Netrunner Intelligence Quickhacks, breach protocol ⭐⭐
Solo Body+Reflexes Assault rifles, shotguns ⭐⭐⭐
Shinobi Reflexes+Cool Katana, silenced pistol ⭐⭐⭐⭐

# IV. Advanced Tips & Strategy

  • Build crafting: Netrunner stacks "cooldown + upload speed"; Solo stacks "crit + armor"; Shinobi stacks "melee damage + crit." See Builds.
  • Cyberware capacity management: don't over-install; leave headroom for key parts (e.g. "Adrenal Converter," "Kerenzikov").
  • Weakness & overload: Netrunner can chain "upload virus"; Solo uses "double jump + slide" to kite.
  • Hidden ending trigger: high Johnny sync rate + specific final-mission choice unlocks the "solo assault on Arasaka Tower" hidden ending.
  • Phantom Liberty synergy: the expansion adds a "relic skill tree" that complements the base Build — the strongest endgame growth line.
  • AutoDrive tricks (2.3): turn on self-driving for long hauls and do other things en route; self-driving taxi enables fast travel.

# V. FAQ

Q1: Still worth buying now? Same game as at launch? A: Post-2.0 it's a transformative version — systems rebuilt, bugs sharply reduced, reputation reversed. New players should just buy the Ultimate Edition.

Q2: Need to buy Phantom Liberty separately? A: For the full experience strongly recommended (Ultimate Edition includes it). It's the final major expansion, top-tier story and systems.

Q3: Can it run on Switch 2 / Mac? A: Yes. In 2026 the Ultimate Edition launched on Nintendo Switch 2 and macOS (Apple Silicon), with cross-platform cloud saves.

Q4: PS5 Pro enhanced? A: Yes. A free April 2026 update added ray-traced Pro mode and PSSR upscaling, with three graphics modes.

Q5: What's the latest version? More content? A: As of 2026, latest is 2.3 + 2.31. 2.3 added AutoDrive, 4 new vehicles, photo mode enhancements; CDPR calls 2.3 the last major content update, with follow-up focused on tech / platform support. Sequel Cyberpunk 2 (UE5) is in pre-production, expected after 2028.

Q6: Motion sick from first-person? A: You can switch to third-person in cars / bikes; adjust FOV and motion blur in settings to ease it.
